I arrive in Los Angeles

(Day 1) I arrived at Philadelphia airport around 5:00pm to catch my 6:20pm flight to Los Angeles. Unfortunately, my flight was delayed for almost an hour. What a great way to start my trip...

I couldn't help but feel a little emotional when I thought about leaving home to travel the world. It's only a year, I kept telling myself. The time will go by really fast. And I'll have the time of my life!

Other than the delay, the flight was pretty standard. The plane less than half full . Everyone was able to find their own row of three seats to get comfortable in. I spent half the flight sleeping, the other half reading my Rough Guide to New Zealand.

Jack and Jose picked me up at the airport. On the way back to Jack's house, we stopped at a place to pick up some food. I hadn't eaten since lunch, east coast time, and it was nearly 11:00pm, west coast time. The kitchen was closed though, so we all just had a beer before piling back into the car. Jack reheated some leftovers when we got back to his place before we called it a night.

As you can see, not much happened on day one...

Thanks to everyone for their support and comments! Knowing people are reading keeps me motivated to continue the updates!
