I wish I had a car

(Day 3) I have learned that getting around in LA without a car is impossible.

Originally, I had wanted to go to Santa Monica. But a cab ride would've set me back close to $40. Public transportation would've required multiple transfers and nearly three hours. Time was precious, I had a flight to catch that night at 10pm. I couldn't afford to spend too much time navigating LA public transportation. To make matters worse, it was raining. I seriously contemplated just sitting around the entire day.

Fortunately, Jack's roommate Marie had taken a sick day from work. She had a doctor's appointment in the morning, and decided just to take the entire day off. She offered to drive me to the subway station. From there, I could at least explore downtown LA for a bit.

Without a map, much less a guide, I can't say my tour downtown was very exciting. I didn't even know what I was looking at half the time. At 4pm, I had to start heading back to Jack's place, so he could pick me up after work and drive me to LAX.

Jack got home around 7pm and we left for the airport. Even with a car, getting around LA was a challenge. LA traffic is already notoriously bad. Throw in some rain, you've got yourself a 1.5 hour drive to the airport. It's a good thing we left early!

I boarded my plane to Fiji. Like my last flight, there were plenty of empty seats, meaning lots of leg room. It was quite comfortable, this 10 hour flight might not be so bad.

Thanks to everyone for their support and comments! Knowing people are reading keeps me motivated to continue the updates!

Greetings from Fiji! I've booked a package to Mana Island, so I may be MIA (Missing Internet Access) for the next couple of days!

Yes, LA is completely opposite of San Francisco. We all say everything is 20 minutes away but factor in the traffic and it's really about 30 to 35. But hey, we've grown used to it. I absolutely hate public transportation. I love being in my own ride or grabbin a ride with a friend. No wonder so much traffic, eh? I guess the rest of LA share my same sentiment. Downtown isn't a big deal at all. If I hadn't been so busy and checked up on your page, maybe there would've been a chance for me to show you around. But like you said, with the rain and all, you might be a little bummed. Though, I myself don't mind strolling around in the rain really, but you don't need to be getting sick at a time like this. So off to Fiji, huh? Have a safe flight and don't forget to pleasure us with some pictures!
