Playing Tourist
(Day 2) Jack had planned to wake up at 6:30am to go to work. Didn't happen. I don't think he got up until 8:00am. I myself woke up an hour later.
I decided to play the part of the tourist and go to Hollywood Blvd. Unfortunately, I had no idea how to get there. After searching online for about an hour, I got a rough idea of what direction I wanted to go in. I started out by walking a couple miles to Ventura, where I caught the 150 bus to Universal City. I probably should've gotten on the 750, which I think is an express and would've gotten me there faster. I transferred to some metro and got off at a stop labeled Hollywood Blvd. Not bad, it only took me two hours to get there.
I spent nearly an hour just walking up and down Hollywood Blvd with my eyes glued to the floor, reading the names of people with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I recognized very few of them. The walk wasn't a complete waste though. Did you know that Gene Autry is the only entertainer on the Walk of Fame with five stars? One in each of the categories: Movies, radio, television, recordings, and live performances. Bob Hope had a special star too, having been named the citizen of the century.
I wandered around, blending in with the picture taking tourists pretty well, snapping pictures with reckless abandon. Everything worth seeing on Hollywood Blvd was located within two blocks. The Chinese Theatre was blocked off for the premiere of movie Constantine. Sephora was shooting a commercial in the Kodak Theatre, so I played the part and took pictures of that as well. I saw Spiderman and Catwoman plotting to take over the world, while across the street, Batman and Superwoman tried desparately to foil their plans.
And of course, what tour of Hollywood would be complete without the obligatory picture of the Hollywood sign?
At 6:30pm, I met up with Jack, Kenny, and Steve to view the taping of the Jimmy Kimmel Live show. There's a reason the show is aired very very late at night. It sucks. Shows like Leno and Letterman get the A-list stars to make appearances. Kimmel's show featured D-list stars. I had no idea who Seth Green was until Steve pointed out to me he was the son of Dr. Evil in the Austin Powers movies. The other guest was a American Idol reject, some guy who had the voice of a girl. Granted, his singing was pretty good, but if you're going to go have American Idol rejects appear on the show, at least get William Hung!
Kenny went home after the show, and the rest of us grabbed a quick dinner at McDonald's before heading over to Barney's Beanery to drink and play pool. The wait between games at the pool tables was about an hour, so in the meantime I amused myself by taking pictures of random girls singing karaoke. Jack got his own turn at the karaoke machine, where he mangled his rendition of Friday I'm in Love.
Like the previous night, we didn't get home til about 2:00am. I guess someone's going to be late for work again tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone for their support and comments! Knowing people are reading keeps me motivated to continue the updates!

Dude, Seth Green is no D-list star... he's definitely B list, no lower. Not only was he Dr.Evil's son, he was a werewolf on Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

I TOTALLY forgot you were going to be in LA first! How long are you staying here?! I used to work in Studio City, which is a hop, skip, and a jump away from Universal City. Man, so close yet so far. The metro system really sucks here. You should've had your friend take you around. I say, hit up Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles. Go to Santa Monica 3rd St. Promenade. Oh yeah, you should've checked out City Walk in Universal. You know, I've never even strolled down Hollywood myself? I guess because it's right there and I've passed through the areas before that it ain't a big deal. Oh and you just missed my friend having her birthday at Barney's Beanery because they had it tonight. Ha!
