I can't see...
(Day 33) I could tell it was going to be a bad day from the start. Despite getting an extra hour of sleep due to daylight savings, I woke up tired and lethargic. The sky was overcast, threatening with rain. And to top it all off, I cut myself on the lip while shaving, something I hadn't done in a very long time. It took me 15 minutes to stop the bleeding.
The weather forecast called for the clouds to disperse sometime in the afternoon, so I passed the morning hanging out at city center reading a book. I returned to the hostel to make myself a quick lunch, and hten set off for Port Hills and the Christchurch Gondola.
Having learned my lesson from the previous day, I eschewed the Best Attractions shuttle and went straight to the bus station. Catching the right bus was easy. The brochure indicated the #28 bus to Lyttleton would drop me off at the base station. When we pulled into the gondola parking lot, it really looked like the sky was going to clear. Several tourists and I (foolishly) paid for our ride up.
The view at the top was... well, there was no view to speak of. We were pretty much in the middle of a cloud. Pictures along the observatory deck showed what we should've been looking for, but all we saw was white mist. I thought to do a couple walks, but a quick glance at the trail told me there'd be nothing to see. Patiently, I waited for the weatherman's forecast to come true, but the mist appeared to grow thicker with each passing minute. Finally, along with the other disappointed tourists, I hopped on the gondola and headed back down. What a waste of a day, I thought to myself.
I did manage to salvage the day back at the hostel by doing something I hadn't done before though.
Watch Kill Bill Vol 1.
Thanks to everyone for their support and comments! Knowing people are reading keeps me motivated to continue the updates!

thanks for not thinking me cheap :) i like the way jon put it.. i'm just maximizing my funds!
dave: if you're really interested... NZ had no mammals to speak of until people brought them there (except maybe bats). so the kiwi evolved to take the place of land mammals.
bingwhohastoresorttodirtytacticstoguardme: NZ didnt count, i didnt get your challenge til i was well out of the populated area! and i'm not cheap, you just werent worth spending money to hang out with!

Try to walk across the Harbour Bridge. It is highly recommanded. I'll send you email about it. Have fun...

I don't think you're cheap at all. I mean, seriously, you have a long journey ahead of you. You don't want to deplete your funds hella quick. I feel you on that. And I can't believe you've never watched Kill Bill vol. 1. I actually like the first one better than the 2nd. -GEM
