Sleepwalker in Wellington

(Day 16) Since travelling, I've had some very vivid dreams.

I've dreamed of my friends back home. I've dreamed of flunking out of college. (Three years out of school and I still get those.) I've even dreamed about dating a girl with three breasts.

Last night, a pretty European girl wearing next to nothing came to my bed in the middle of the night.

Last night was no dream though.

Someone sat on my bed. At first, I didn't think too much of it, figuring it was someone coming in late at night and trying to reach the top bunk.

"[Something something]" she whispered to me in what sounded like German, or heavily accented English.

"Huh?"

"[Something something]" she repeated.

"Yes?"

"[Something something]" she whispered again.

"No?"

Whatever language she was speaking, we were mutually incoherent.

We stared at each other for a minute. Then she leaned over and started rummaging through my bag. My money belt was securely around my waist, and I could feel my laptop next to me, so I patiently waited to see what she was looking for.

After a few moments, she straightened up and just sat there. By this time, I was wide awake. I sat up next to her. I could make out her face through the faint light coming in through the window. She looked scared. She had no shirt on, only her bra.

I put my arm around her to get her attention. "Do you know where your bed is?" I asked.

"No." At least we were speaking the same language now.

I looked around at the bunks and saw an empty bed with someone's backpack underneath. I figured that's where she had been.

I started to get up and took her hand. "Here, want me to show you to your bed?"

She pulled me back down. "No." What was going on??

We sat there for a few more moments. Then she turned to me and asked, "Where do you sleep?"

"Here. I sleep here."

She asked again. "Where do you sleep?"

"I sleep here. This is my bed."

I moved over, making some room for her to lie down. Just in case.

A few more seconds passed. All of the sudden, it seemed like she woke up. "Sorry." She stood up and walked to her own bunk. As she got up, I could see she had no shorts on either, only a skimpy thong. Whoa.

What a weird night.

Thanks to everyone for their support and comments! Knowing people are reading keeps me motivated to continue the updates!

Ok, I think I'm caught up. Currently in Nelson, New Zealand.

Internet access that let me use my floppy disks are getting hard to find... Will be doing a 3 day hike soon, updates when i get back.

Momoko: That's a good idea! next time I know I will be visiting hot springs, I'll bring some eggs!

Oh, and for the pics of the girls I meet, if I don't include any, means they're nothing extraordinary.

But I will share one I managed to take.. I caption it "Girls run out of laundry too."

I am lmfao.. This is the most exciting and funniest episode that I've ever seen.. The "run out of laundry" picture definately a candidate for Pulitzer.

Haha, interesting story. Seems like the nature sites aren't the only thing you're getting an eyeful of in New Zealand, eh?

I'm pretty sure it won't be your last experience of this sort!

You know, it's very fashionable these days to show some "plumber's butt". It's been described as the new cleavage. They actually passed a law in Virginia (if I recall correctly) banning such displays. Great picture.

Hmmmm, the old "I need to put my arm around you to get your attention" trick. Always a classic.

Anyway, great story, except it lacks closure. Do have any idea what she was after? Did you ever see her again?

Also, it was very thoughtful of you to post the last picture (an improvement on the sheep shots by the way). I'm sure her parents are quite proud.
